STUDIO in Štenc House

We are happy to present you the venue of STUDIO designSUPERMARKET, the official accompanying program of Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Weekend 2013, which will take place on September 18 – 22. It is the unique Štenc House in Salvátorská street – just a few steps form Pařížská, the place of Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Weekend 2013 main program. Read its story and look forward…

Renowned Czech architect Otakar Novotný, the author of SVU Mánes building at Masarykově nábřeží, finished the design of Štenc House in 1909 influented by the upcoming modern style and his own study trips to the Netherlands. The building became a significant contrast among  the surrounding historical buildings of the Old Town. Prague graphic designer Jan Štenc placed in the building complex his large print and graphics studio, a unique archive of glass negatives and an exhibition gallery for examples of their work. The courtyard building, where STUDIO designSUPERMARKET takes place, is characterized by rugged topography and aperture. The Štenc House used to serve as a meeting point of important personalities of Prague in the first half of 20th century. Its fame, however, retained only till the rise of communism. Currently, the building is owned by direct descendants of Jan Štenc  and seeks for new tenant who would follow its former glory. We believe that we – and especially you – will succeed at least for a while.
